Businessman Apollo Nyegamehe alias Aponye is dead. Aponye died in a tragic car accident at Itojo, in Ntungamo District on Thursday evening at around 9pm.
The deceased businessman was being chauffered in a Land Cruiser registration number UBF 300Z with a yet to identified person who sustained serious injuries.
In a statement by the Rwizi regional spokesperson Samson Kasasira, preliminary investigations indicate that ill fated vehicle registration UBF 300Z that was headed to Kabale side rammed into a stationery motor truck UAZ 767D FUSO that was parked due a mechanical problem alongside the road in Itojo.
His body was conveyed to Itojo hospital mortuary and the rest of the occupants were rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
Reports obtained by this website indicate that the deceased businessman was going to attend a burrial ceremony of his fellow businessman who had passed away a few days.
Aponye is a renowned businessman who owns Aponye Mall in downtown Kampala, Mega Standard Supermarket as well as Aponye Mall at the heart of Ntinda.
He was one of the major suppliers of COVID-19 relief food, sparking controversy on how he was picked for the job as well as the quality of supplies he put out for distribution to the people.
He was also elected NRM chairman for Rukiga District and has been an ardent supporter of the ruling NRM until his death.
