A 30-year-old in the eastern border district of Busia has passed away after he allegedly took a large amount of sex enhancement pills.
Police identified the deceased as Justus Ouma, a resident of Buwaya village, Bumunyi Parish in Masinya Sub-county.
The incident is being investigated by Police in Bukedi South and Busia district, according to Police spokesman Fred Enanga.
Enanga says the victim spent 3 days with his 25 year old woman friend (names withheld) who woke up on July 19, at around 6am, and found her partner dead in bed.
“The matter was brought to the attention of the police at Masinya, and the scene visited,” Enanga said in a statement.
“The body was transferred to Masafu general hospital for post-mortem, which revealed a cardiac reaction to pills.”
The police mouthpiece sent out a warning in the statement to all sexually active men, that “some of the sexual male enhancement pills are not tested and can be dangerous to one’s health or life threatening.”
“It’s therefore advisable that you see a physician before using any sex stamina pills,” Enanga added.
Although it is uncommon to overdose on aphrodisiacs, medical research shows that sex enhancement drugs such as Viagra and Revatio may, if taken in high amounts, cause severe organ complications especially the cardiovascular system and reproductive system.
The tabs may cause pulmonary hypertension, retinal dysfunction among others. Due to overdose on these drugs, research shows, that a person may get a heart attack, stroke, irregular heartbeats and death may also occur in rare cases.
