Tragic Fire Claims Two Lives and Injures Nine at Kasana Junior School in Masaka City

A devastating fire broke out at Kasana Junior School in Masaka City, resulting in the loss of two young lives and injuries to nine students.

The deceased have been identified as Aloysius Katende and Malik Katende, and the affected dormitory housed around 15 children from the top and P1 classes, according to authorities.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a possible short circuit, possibly related to a phone charging point used by the matron, Christine Adong, could have triggered the fire. Southern regional deputy police commander Jamada Wandera explained that there is no evidence of ill intent behind the fire, as it seems to be an electrical issue.

In total, 11 students and the matron were affected by the fire. The injured students are receiving treatment at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital, where concerned parents have gathered to check on their children.

The injured include Alpha Wasswa, Austin Kisomose, Grant Matovu, Martin Muganga, Arnold Mwesigye, Sharid Mwanje, and others identified as Ssenoga and Ahimbisibwe.

While the situation is being managed, authorities are urging parents to remain calm and have assured that they are doing their best to support the affected children and families.
