In a twist of events, renowned singer Ronald Mayinja finds himself at the center of a controversy as his former lover, Joyce “Jojo” Nagawa, alleges that he is attempting to reclaim a piece of land he bestowed upon her almost two decades ago.
Nagawa, taking her grievances to the media, asserts that Mayinja returned from the UK with the intention of retrieving the land title he had gifted her, a title that had been legally transferred into her name.
The unfolding drama took an unexpected turn when Nagawa, unaware of Mayinja’s return, was lured into a meeting with him and his legal representatives under false pretenses.
Recounting the encounter, she reveals, “A woman called to meet me at a location, and on getting there, I found Mayinja waiting with his lawyer. They threatened to have me arrested and even tried to force me to sign some papers.”
Nagawa traces her connection with the singer back to 2002 when they began dating, eventually leading her to join Mayinja’s band. She attributes the gifted land, situated on Plot 2227, Block 183 in Bulindo, to the singer’s appreciation for her appearance and business acumen.
After the land was handed over to Nagawa, and the title legally changed to her name, the couple embarked on developing the property by constructing apartments.
However, the situation took a complicated turn when Mayinja allegedly requested Nagawa to secure a UGX 75 million loan from the bank using the land title as collateral.
The loan repayment encountered difficulties, resulting in an outstanding balance of UGX 35 million still held by the bank. Nagawa expresses her astonishment at Mayinja’s sudden claim to the land title upon his return from abroad.
In an audio exchange between the two parties, Mayinja asserts his ownership, stating, “Whatever you owe me is well documented; it is unfortunate that you are trying to make me look bad in public.”
The unfolding legal dispute adds a layer of complexity to the narrative, highlighting the challenges that can arise when love and property become entangled in the threads of time.
