45 year old man in Iganga arrested with skull of his later brother

Police in Iganga District have arrested a 45 year old man for exhuming the remains of his late young brother who died seven years ago. The suspect Mwamadhi Isiko was on Saturday arrested from Buwolomera village in Nawaningi Sub County where he was found at night exhuming the remains of his late brother Mweru Hamuza.

The suspect is said to have traveled from Bukawongo village in Malongo sub county, Mayuge District to check on his relatives but when it reached midnight, he moved out of the house and went to the grave.

The LC1 chairman of Buwolomera village, Moses Kitinyo, said the suspect was caught by a group of locals who were carrying out night patrols. He said the suspect was a born of Buwolomera village and had moved to Mayuge District two years ago to open up a shrine and become a traditional healer.

The chairman said this was the second case of exhuming the remains of the dead in a period of one year. Locals condemned the act and asked government to apprehend the perpetrator. When asked where he was taking the remains of the dead, Isiko said he was contracted by a one Sseba in Mayuge to get him the remains and was given Shs40,000.

The vice chairperson of traditional healers in Iganga District Jamida Mutesa said the suspect was a fake traditional healer and asked the public to report such people to authorities. The LC3 chairman Nawaningi sub county, Maganda Ayub, called on government to put stringent laws on traditional healers. The suspect was taken to Bunyiro police post as investigations continue
