Kirumira’s Wife Names her new born Baby Boy KAWEESI

The wife to former Buyende DPC Muhammad Kirumira, who is still under detention at Nalufenya detention centre has given birth. Mariam Kirumira gave birth today at around 3:00pm to a bouncing baby boy at Rubaga hospital.

Kirumira’s father said that the boy has been named Kaweesi because it was an order from Kirumira himself. Kirumira’s father said his son instructed him that if his wife gives birth when he is still in detention at Nalufenya, they should name him Kaweesi even if the baby is a girl.

We are still wondering why Kirumira decided to give his son to another clan given that he (Kirumira) is from ‘Ngeye’ clan yet Kaweesi is from the ‘Nte’ clan. It is rare in Buganda for a father to give his new born a name that is from another clan and not his.

Kirumira is currently detained at Nalufenya Detention Centre in Jinja after walking out of court last Tuesday in protest over stringent bail terms given to him.

Kirumira is charged with a number of charges including extortion, corruption and torture. He was told by the police court to bring three sureties who were expected to be senior police officers and also to report to the Professional Standards Unit every morning a thing he protested and walked out of court.

Yesterday, Kirumira’s father, Abubakar Kawooya dragged the chairman of the police disciplinary Court SCP Dennis Odongpiny to High court-Civil division for subjecting his son to illegal proceedings.
Kawooya accuses Odongpiny of charging Kirumira with offenses for which he is protected by the Whistle Blowers Act. He says that before his arrest and charging, his son was only being a whistle blower when he wrote against the conduct of some senior police officers at the disciplinary court.
