Ugandans Increasingly Becoming Infertile Because Of Sexual Diseases – Ministry of Health

The state Minister Of Health Sarah Opendi has announced that Ugandan couples are increasingly becoming infertile because of the increasing rate of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) in both men and women.

During the weekly cabinet media briefing at the Uganda Media Centre, Opendi said, “In Uganda, about 10-15% of the couples cannot have children due to infertility. About 75% of these are due to Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) which lead to blockage of Fallopian tubes in women and sperm ducts among men.”

According to the minister, Infertility is a very big but silent problem among Ugandans and couples in developing countries and it needs to be aggressively tackled using the advancing technologies in the world and health sector in particular. Opendi said that regulations are needed to crack down on some dangerous practices that may come along with the new technologies to address such health complications or challenges in the country.

Uganda will soon be opening up a fertility hospital in Mulago that will provide better and quality fertility service delivery to Ugandans to save many Ugandans who have been coughing between UGX 10 to 20 M to have infertility treatment services in different private health facilities.

Uganda will on 1st March 2018 host the infertility symposium that will bring hundreds of scientists in the country to forge a way forward on handling the matter.
