Shamim Naiga Repaces Faridah Nakazibwe on NTV’s Akawungeezi

Shamim Nayiga, the familiar face of UBC TV News in Luganda, also known as UBC Leero, could soon be gracing the screens of NTV, Uganda’s renowned television network.

It’s speculated that she may step into the shoes of the celebrated journalist, Faridah Nakazibwe, who bid farewell to NTV in late 2023.

Nayga, recognized for her light complexion, modest demeanor, and eloquent delivery, emerged as the top contender in the search for Nakazibwe’s replacement.

Having kick-started her career at Delta TV, she brings a wealth of experience to NTV’s team, joining the ranks of seasoned Luganda News Anchors like Aniwalu Katamba, Patrick Mukasa (aka Kazalabwana), and Sandra Nakiwala.

Nakazibwe’s unexpected departure from NTV after nearly 15 years left many taken aback, especially considering her pivotal role as the anchor of the Luganda news bulletin, NTV Akawungeezi.

Over the years, her dedication and professionalism earned her the position of co-producer for the news bulletin, alongside her anchoring responsibilities.

She also graced screens as the host of the Mwasuze Mutya show, a program highlighting remarkable individuals in society.

In September 2023, Nakazibwe expanded her horizons by obtaining a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Victoria University.

Reports indicate that she’s shifting her focus towards personal ventures, including managing her SMILE Nakazibwe Foundation, aimed at assisting underprivileged families and organizing charitable events.

As Nakazibwe steps down, Ruth Kalibbala Bwanika, who previously hosted the Mwasuze Mutya show, is slated to fill her shoes.

With this transition, the Ugandan media landscape is set for a new era, with Naiga potentially taking center stage at NTV, enriching viewers’ experience with her expertise and charm.
