As Ugandan female celebrities and leaders marked International Women’s Day in distinctive ways, talented songstress Juliana Kanyomozi embraced her roots with a special gesture.
On Friday morning, Juliana graced the airwaves of CBS radio in Bulange Mengo, taking on the role of delivering the Luganda morning news.
Joining her in the studio was former NTV Uganda news anchor, Faridah Nakazibwe, as they flawlessly presented the 9:00 am Luganda bulletin on the sister station 89.2FM, Emmanduso Radio.
Meanwhile, on CBS’s 88.8 channel, the morning news bulletin was delivered by former Minister and current Kayuga District Woman MP, Hon Aidha Erios Nantaba, accompanied by Hon Juliet Kakande, the Masaka City representative. The quartet seamlessly rotated in delivering the news, taking breaks to sip on coffee between stories.
For Juliana and Nakazibwe, their on-air experience made the job notably smoother. Juliana’s stint at Capital FM for six years in the 2000s, where she initially began by reading English news right after high school, equipped her with the skills needed for the task. Faridah, with decades of experience from WBS TV and NTV Uganda, brought her expertise in Luganda news to the table.
Although the female MPs required intermittent assistance from the news producers, they performed relatively well, contributing to the special broadcast.
Celebrating International Women’s Day, Ugandan electronic media houses traditionally hand over their studios to female presenters, featuring daylong programming centered around women and exclusively playing music by female artists.
This gesture highlights the achievements and contributions of women in various fields while amplifying their voices on this global occasion.
