Renowned songstress Lilian Mbabazi finds herself facing the imminent threat of incarceration if she fails to settle her overdue rent, marking a distressing recurrence of last year’s headlines.
Her landlord’s legal representative revealed that she owed 26 million shillings at the time, despite managing to clear 10 million shillings, leaving a significant balance of 16 million shillings unpaid.
Following her partial payment, Mbabazi sought permission to vacate the premises and relocated to a new residence, promising to settle the remaining debt within three months.
However, this grace period lapsed in December, with Mbabazi reportedly receiving continuous reminders to address the outstanding balance.
Shockingly, after the three months elapsed, she blocked communication from those seeking payment and made no further attempts to fulfill her financial obligations.
Consequently, the landlord pursued legal action, serving Mbabazi with court papers, which she refused to acknowledge, leading to virtual delivery of the documents. Despite these efforts, Mbabazi has shown no initiative to address the situation, prompting the landlord to seek court intervention for enforcement of payment.
Initially, Mbabazi appeared to receive support from Eddy Kenzo’s Uganda National Musicians Federation amid her financial struggles. However, it appears that this assistance was insufficient in alleviating her substantial financial burden.
Lilian Mbabazi, formerly part of the acclaimed girl singing trio Blu 3, is widely recognized as one of the most talented vocalists of her era.
Her personal life, including her marriage to the late singer Mowzey Radio and their two children, has been overshadowed by financial challenges, exacerbated by mismanagement of Radio’s estate, leaving inadequate provision for their support.
