Annie Malaika famously known as ‘Annie Mungoma’ is the President of Uganda Sport Shooting Federation who captured fame in the early 2000’s after participating in the International Olympics.
It seems Annie’s name could have been enlightened after she headlined the new Miss Curvy Uganda Pageant competitions that have sparked a lot of controversies around the country.
Speaking during the official launch on Tuesday at Mestsil Hotel in Nsambya, Kampala, Annie Mungoma said the contest is jointly organized by Brand Ambassador 256.
She revealed that the event’s aim is to recognize curvaceous women, adding that the campaign will reach all parts of Uganda.
“Minimum age of 18 years to 35 is good enough because when you look at Ugandan women, before 18, they are not yet curvaceous,” she said.
On other qualification a contestant ought to possess, she added: “Waist and hips – we are talking about shape, people have different shapes. We are looking for those with Big – Bold – Plus Size.”
Annie’s new project seems to have a clear way in the country especially after receiving convincing comments from the President H.E YK Museveni.
After the launch of the Miss Curvy pageant as controversies rose, President Museveni praised the “big” Annie Mungoma, as a very good sharpshooter and even represented Uganda in shooting at the Olympics.
“I think in their (Miss Curvy organizers) simple reasoning, if beauty can be a selling point for an individual and for a country – Miss Africa, I think they started thinking, they started being creative…if this one can be appreciated, what about this one? That is what I suspect because I know the children. Annie Mungoma is a very good child. We shall engage them quietly…If beauty is good, how about structure, curves, I have got to show them off. For me that is what I suspect,” he said.
Annie’s family is popularly remembered to have dominated the first batch of athletes to represent Uganda in the Olympics.
The Uganda Sport Shooting Federation activities are monitored by the African Confederation and (International Sport Shooting Federation) ISSF.
It consists of 120 athletes (shooters) under 4clubs who are all experts at rifle and pistol and yet to introduce short gun.
The ISSF International Shooting Sport Federation is composed of those National Shooting Organizations which are duly recognized by the ISSF as the sole controlling body of amateur shooting sports and further recognized by and affiliated with their National Olympic Committee. Membership is open to one Federation from each country. Countries with two member federations recognized prior to 1989 may retain dual membership. At present, 161 national member federations are affiliated to the ISSF.
The 2019 ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol competitions are slated for 20th-28th February in New Delhi India.
