By Wycliff G; Earlier on Monday 28th October 2019, sensational Ugandan music icon Edrisa Musuuza famously known by stage names Eddy Kenzo met with H.E Y.K Museveni at State House Entebbe.
The impetus for his meeting with the head of state was his recent wail for not having been appreciated by the Ugandan government despite his benefaction towards the country’s music industry worldwide.
The meeting commenced by President Museveni also inviting a few people from his entourage to listen with him to Eddy Kenzo’s touching tale of life.
The former 2015 BET Award narrated to the President his challenging life, growing up as a street kid from Masaka to Kampala and how he successfully managed to pull it off to an international stage as a musician.
He also told him how he has worked tirelessly to lift Uganda’s flag worldwide through music.
Kenzo further revealed to President Museveni the many relationships he has built internationally both musical and business, telling them about the exclusive beauty of Uganda’s tourism potential.
The ‘Bikyuuka’ singer’s story prompted serious sympathy from all the members in the meeting as the President emotionally commented on his career.
“I met with recently crowned African Entertainer of the year and BET award winner, Edrisah Musuuza alias Eddy Kenzo. His story is one of resilience and hard work,” wrote President Museveni.
“Growing up as an orphan to a celebrated and inspirational artiste. I wish him and his team good luck,” he added.
This was indeed a dream come true for the singer as he shared remarks on his social media.
“Thank you for your encouraging remarks. In response to my last post as I went to the statehouse to meet the president. Indeed I want to confirm that it has come to pass and I have met the President of Uganda,” he wrote.
“It was a warm and fruitful discussion about my individual achievements but also most importantly about the huge potential and opportunities available in the arts industry which he pledged to give full government support. I’ll provide details of our interactions anytime soon in the course of this week. Twejjukanyiza binji nga ne volongoto mwali awotuludewo nyo baaba njakuba mbanyonyora mu press conference soon,” Kenzo added.
In the past, the father of two has been one of the ill preachers and critics of the ruling NRM party through his songs like; Volongoto that he recorded earlier this year.
He was also a strong influence on the “Free Bobi Wine” campaign launched last year after fellow musician cum politician Bobi Wine was arrested and brutally banished by the security forces.
However, Kenzo’s meeting with President Museveni is publically notable to Kenzo’s aims of dumping his recent strong political aspirations under opposition party ‘People Power’ headed by Bobi Wine.
