Songstress Winfred Nakanwagi aka ‘Winnie Nwagi’ has finally apologized for her erotic stage performances for St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) boys on 13th July 2019.
The Swangz Avenue music label singer, who has been the main talk around town yesterday for her improper dances with the secondary school boys has pledged to refrain from any further ‘pornographic’ shows.
In a meeting with members of the Pornography Control Committee (PCC) at the Directorate of Ethics and Integrity Offices at Social Security House in Kampala on Monday, the singer pleaded guilty of her actions after a video clip displaying her immoral dances was paraded before her and management.
From this, the ‘Fire Dancer’ singer willingly signed a Pornography Control document agreeing to refrain from any pornographic presentation.
“Following the discussion held today 22nd July 2019 with the Pornography Control Committee, I, Nakanwagi Winnie aka Winnie Nwagi of Swangz Avenue, do hereby acknowledge that my representation through indecent and erotic dancing during the music show held on 13th July 2019 at St. Mary’s Kisubi was pornographic and contravened the provisions of the Anti-Pornography Act, 2014,” said Nwagi.
This was witnessed by; Dr. AnnetteKezaabu Kasimbazi (Chairperson PCC), Okok Samuel (Ethics officer-DEI) and Gico Alwogyire (Principal Legal Officer – DEI).
She was appearing in response to summons issued by the PCC on July 19. Nwagi is accused of appearing indecent at St. Mary’s College Kisubi, an act that is tantamount to a pornographic presentation to an audience of largely children in contravention of the Anti-Pornography Act. The act defines a child as a person under 18 years of age.
Dr. Annette Kezaabu Kasimbazi, the PCC chairperson, says the presentation of the singer was not only against the law but also in breach of the cultural and religious norms of the Ugandan society, adding that this affects the good morals and upbringing of children.
Winnie’s apology lands hours after her bosses (Swangz Avenue) issued a public apology on her behalf earlier on Monday morning.
