Hon. Ssegirinya who has been bedridden overseas for close to two months now shocked the public when he flew back to Uganda for the swearing-in ceremony.
Prior to his illness, the self-proclaimed ‘Mr. Updates’’ victory for the member of parliament was among those that had been petitioned by his counterparts.
Ssegirinya’s competitors had questioned his academic documents and were ready for a court hearing.
Days later, Ssegirinya masterminded a political riot in Kampala City, he was arrested and remanded to Kitalya Government Prison for almost a fortnight.
It was at this juncture that was reported ill and his lawyers sought court bail so that he would be treated.
Since then, debate on whether he would take the oath has escalated from the public and government institutions.
Today, Thursday, May 20th, 2021 marks the four days swearing-in ceremony of the 529 legislators in the 11th Parliament.
Over 130 legislators have been taking their oaths daily since Monday, 17th May 2021.
“We have come to the end of the day’s ceremonies which has seen 133 MPs take oath bringing the total to 398. We resume for the final leg tomorrow, Thursday, 20 May 2021 at 8.00am” Parliamentary statement reads in parts.
According to the information obtained by this website, Hon. Ssegirinya will be swearing-in at 2 PM.
