Appearing to the press, Eddie Mutwe broke down as he told what transpired during the 186day’s stay in jail.

One of the highlights in Eddie Mutwe’s narration was when he was ordered to remove everything he was wearing.

This made him feel like the soldiers were just trying to take away his dignity as a man.

Here is Eddie Mutwe’s full statement:

We were kept in a Police cell in Kalangala while handcuffed. They didn’t remove the cuffs which is against the law. We were later pepper sprayed. After removing my shirt, I was ordered to remove my pair of trousers. After removing the trousers, they told me to remove my mask and socks. They said remove even the boxer, I asked why? When I hesitated, one soldier cocked the gun. They told me to move aside as they all watched me. They them asked me to spread my legs. They also asked me to bend over. I saw them trying to humiliate us and take away our dignity as men.

Eddie Mutwe and 17 other NUP members were granted bail by the General Court Martial on Monday, June 15, 2021.

These were arrested in December 2020 and remanded at Kitalya government prison on charges of illegally possessing firearms.

These were tasked to present themselves before the Court Martial whenever they are recalled.
