Winnie Nanyondo qualifies for the 1500m finals at 2022 Commonwealth Games

Ugandan female athlete Winnie Nanyondo has qualified for the finals after winning heat 2 of the first round of the Women’s 1,500 meters race in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Nanyondo clocked a time of 4:16.04 to qualify for the 1500m final on Sunday.

Winnie Nanyondo born 23 August 1993, in Mulago is a Ugandan middle-and long-distance runner.

She has represented her native country in several important international events, including both the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the 2014 World University Cross Country Championships, the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the 2013 Summer Universiade, and the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics.

About the 2022 Commonwealth Games:

Over 6,500 competitors and officials from 72 nations and territories are participating in the 22nd Commonwealth Games. It is the biggest multi-sport event to be held in the UK since the 2012 London Olympics.

Para-sport is fully integrated into the Games. The athletes, in 27 sports and eight Para-sports, will compete across 15 venues in and around Birmingham. Venues include the Alexander Stadium, the Arena Birmingham, Coventry Arena and Edgbaston, which will host women’s T20 cricket.
